Steps to Finding Local Toddler Activities
Take to The Internet
The obvious starting point is doing a quick google search, but there are some other online searches you may be missing!
- Although obvious, I don’t want to omit the power of a general search engine queries. Whatever your preferred search engine is, do a search for things like: “indoor toddler activities near me” or “Indoor play for toddlers near me” or “Indoor toddler classes near me” you will be surprised what you can find just by switching up what you are asking!
- Do you know that most cities have location specific websites for activities for kids? You might find just what you are looking for by searching for “[Your City/Region] + kids activities” or “[Your City/Region] + parent resources”.
- One of my favorite sites is Macaroni KID! Here you can find if there is a location near you!
- Good ol’ social media! Be sure to take advantage of the social platforms.
- Facebook groups for local parents are an abundant resource of information! You could find private play groups or events, unique local businesses, church activities or even word of mouth activities from other parents.
- There are also a lot of Instagram accounts focused on location specific things to do. Your best bet is to do a search of your location and terms like: mom life, toddler activities, things to do with kids. Don’t forget to utilize hashtags! Some examples are: #[cityname]moms, #[cityname]kids, #kidfriendly[cityname].
- But what about Stories? Yup, even social media Stories are an option! You can checkout location-tagged stories in your area. Often, accounts showcasing activities will tag the location in their Stories.
Check Out Community Resources
There are so many resources right in your backyard!
- Libraries often host story times, playgroups, and other toddler-focused events. The best part, the are usually free!
- Community centers like the YMCA are a wealth of opportunity for your family. Look at schedules for indoor playtime, toddler classes, or family events.
- Gyms & recreation facilities are great options! Many offer tumbling classes, swimming lessons, or open play sessions geared for young children. I would suggest doing a search (as stated above) and specifically look for gymnastics, children’s gym, and indoor pools.
